Umang 2019

ME OR WE!

26, 27, 28 & 29 December 2019

Umang 2019, witnessed the participation of as many as Fifty-Four Colleges, which were represented by a whooping number of students. The glamour, the glitz, the sheer professionalism, and many, many man-hours spent to achieve this Success is priceless.

The opening ceremony was in perfect harmony with the solemnity of the occasion. Prof Dilip Shah did the honours, inviting the members of the Management Committee on stage for planting the seeds of Umang 2019. Followed by theme Song of Umang – a pulsating composition that talked about success, progress, wisdom, knowledge, and exposure that Umang showers on the participants. 

Flames the dance collective of the BESC, then proceeded to take the breath away of the audience by their superb rendition of a composition that paid tribute to the Dancing Diva of Bollywood, the evergreen sensation called Madhuri Dixit Nene.

However, the main draw, a surprise, was reserved for the very end, when the star cast of the soon to be released Bengali blockbuster “Asur” visited the campus to be a part of the Umang Opening Ceremony. 


The following 4-days saw a plethora of events clubbed under the heads; Star Events, Performing Arts, Management Events, Voices in-action, Umang Gaming Console, Literary Arts, Fine arts, Indoor & Outdoor Sports covering an array of over 75 unique events.

December 27th, 2019 HumSufi a Kolkata based soul music group that finds its inspiration in the timeless tunes and mystic spirituality in Sufi traditions performed, belting out one hit after the other. 

December 29th, 2019. Salim-Suleiman the highly talented and musically trained team of composers performed for the closing ceremony. It was a pulsating sea of dancing bodies as the Salim-Sulaiman duo, accompanied by some of the biggest names in the industry on instruments, rocked.

Followed by was the Closing ceremony. It was an emotional moment as, “Umang- is not a destination, but a journey and the conclusion of one is not an end but beginning for the next chapter”. That is precisely why it is customary to declare the theme for the next Umang, “The theme for Umang 2020 will be Borrowing from the Future”.

The Winners were declared and as was expected, BESC emerged as the overall champions, followed by St Xavier’s College, Kolkata. THK Jain College won the bronze.

Sri Shikshayatan College won the trophy for the Most Disciplined College. And the Award for the Best College Representative (Male) went to Debasish Bangur of the JD Birla Institute (BBA), while the Award for the Best College Representative (Female) went to Shivangi Daga of the JD Birla Institute (Main Campus).

The Student of the Year Award went to Muskan Kedia of the BESC while Star of Umang Award was won by Shikhar Thanvi of the BESC.
