26, 27, 28 & 29 December 2022

The much-awaited 4-day cultural fest of The Bhawanipur Education Society College- UMANG 2022 was scheduled from 26th December – 29th December. After a long wait of two years, Umang which started in year 1999 holds a special place in the hearts of colleges in the Eastern part of the country, to date continues to be the most talked about fest of Kolkata. The name of the fest itself denotes enthusiasm and passion amongst the youth. With a grander comeback this year, Umang stood true to its legacy of grandeur & creativity.

This year’s theme of Umang was ‘75+25’ which signifies the last 75 years of India’s glorious independence and the upcoming 25 years, during which the country aims to become a developed nation and accomplish its goal of ‘tech-age for humankind’. The futuristic appeal of the theme gave the fest a unique dimension by letting the students envision our nation heading towards a century. About 50 colleges and 3500 participants from all over Kolkata took part in this four-day extravaganza which had more than 80 events to offer. These events represented a wide spectrum of opportunities for students to be a part of & feel the same joy as the host college. The events were picked from various fields such as performing arts, literary arts, fine arts, indoor and outdoor sports, management skills, fashion walks, and video games.

The event commenced with the management of the college, President, Sri Rajnikant Dani; Mr. Miraj D. Shah, Vice Chairman; Mr. Pradip Seth; Mrs. Nalini Parekh; Mrs. Renuka Bhatt; Mr. Jeetu Shah; Mr. Umesh Thakkar; Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, Director General of the College, Dr. Suman K Mukerjee; along with faculty of the College were called up on the stage to mark the official commencement of Umang 2022. Everyone participated in the opening ceremony by launching balloons of our Indian tricolor flag in the sky, followed by the National Anthem.

On the second day, after 26 events being hosted in different parts of the college, a highly energetic band performance by ‘TRAP- The Radical Array Project’ skyrocketed the ambiance of the college towards the evening. The entire crowd was roaring with zest as they were Trapped by the energy of the band. On the third day, with a total of 29 events, the winner of the star event of the day ‘Mr. & Ms. Umang’ was declared and towards the evening celebrated Bengali film actor Mahi Kar came to college to promote her film, Dr. Bakshi. On the last day of the Closing ceremony in the college the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah announced the Overall Winners of Umang 2022, where the first position was bagged by The Bhawanipur Education Society but owing to its traditional convention the winner’s trophy was passed on to St. Xavier’s University, who stood second. In the second position then came The Heritage College & the third position was bagged by Seth Anadram Jaipuria College. Last but not the least, the fourth and final day happened to be the most magical of all as the very popular and melodic singer- Armaan Malik graced Umang with his heartfelt presence. The students were extremely excited about this guest performance, and it was worth the wait. The audience wholeheartedly cherished every moment as they grooved to his soulful tracks such as ‘Pehla Pehla Pyaar’, ‘Jab Tak’, ‘You’, and many more. Towards the end of the event, in the presence of all the dignitaries, Armaan Malik gave the ‘Student of the Year’ award to Ashutosh Kumar Jha, the Best student of Bhawanipur College.

To host an event of this scale, the college engaged a team of around 270 student volunteers who managed the entire show. The four days of ‘Umang 2022’ saw a plethora of artists, dancers, dramatists, fashionistas, and creative geniuses. The festivity was not just for those who wish to participate & show their talents it was a learning window for those who we call the future of India. The students of various colleges around Kolkata found themselves on a grand platform with fellow talents. This event which marked ‘Azadi ka Mahotsav: 75 +25 concluded with the true spirit of ‘Umang’ amongst The Bhawanipur family.
